The vocal scores include two French editions, by Gèrard (1864?, pl. no. C.M. 10,240) and Heugel (1865?, pl. no. H. 4624); one English edition by Chappell (1866, pl. no. 13266) and two German editions by Bote & Bock (pl. nos. 15786 and 6906--6927). The vocal parts include two sets of English manuscript parts and one set of German manuscript parts with English translations written in. Several of these parts carry names of performers. One hundred and six parts are mimeoed English for the "Fair Helen Version," with numerous duplicates. The chorus parts include 16 German manuscript parts bearing performers' names and English translations written in; eight manuscript English parts, carrying performers' names, 76 mimeoed English parts for the "Fair Helen Version," and 37 English, mimeoed parts carrying performers' names and the indication "Pauline Hall Opera Co." on one. The promptbooks include six typed books in English, two of which are unbound and incomplete; one mimeoed book marked "Harrison Version" and "Casino Version," including a playbill with cast pasted in the front; three manuscript books in English, one of which is unbound; and two books consisting of the printed libretto, in English, one of which is marked "Aimee translation" and is made up of the pages of the libretto pasted into a ledger, and the other an English libretto for the "Emily Soldene version," printed in Sydney, 1877, by Henry Solomon, with interleaved pages of manuscript. The cast is listed in the preliminaries. Three books are in German, manuscript, one of which carries a playbill for the Thalia-Theatre, May 17, 1880, pasted in the cover. The dialogue parts include five sets of English parts, typed and manuscript, many of which are fragmentary; and one set of German manuscript parts bearing the name of Wm. Kreitz. Of the English parts one set carries the indication "Property of Abbey, Schoeffel & Grau" and one set bears the stamp of Fred Solomon. There are also 89 mimeoed parts, in English, several carrying names of performers. The accompanying material consists of a program for a performance by Morley Meredith.

He had a strong influence in popular music in Europe, and was one of the originators of the operetta, of which he wrote more than one hundred.
